Jinxx got up before I did. I felt him wiggle out from under my arm and hurry to the bathroom and slam the door. Seconds later I heard him throwing up, gaging for a few seconds then completely silent and flushing the toilet. I hated his morning sickness, not as much as he did but it was horrible. I've seen a lot of people hurl their guts but when Jinxx did it it just...hurt, I guess. He came out a few minuets later running his fingers through his hair and some tooth paste foam still on his bottom lip. I smiled as he climbed back beside me and wiped it off his chin.
"What was that for?" he asked.
"You still had some stuff on you, mint mouth." I said, pecking him on the lips.
He blinked and laid back down next to me. The lump on his belly jutting out from his skinny figure and lightly pressing against my side. I slid my arm underneath his neck while I gently glided my fingers over his belly. He watched my fingers trace hearts and smiley faces over his pale skin, caressing the soft flesh and making small blonde hairs stand up. Jinxx giggled softly and took my hand away from his belly, only to clasp it in his. The callouses on his fingers from years of guitar playing scraped my knuckles.
"So are we just going to lay in bed all day or do something productive?" I said, grinning at my boyfriend.
"Screw productivity, you're comfortable." He said, looking up at me with his piercing blue eyes.
"Whatever you say." I knew not to argue with pregnant people, plus Jinxx had the right to be comfortable. I wasn't complaining.
About 15 minuets passed, Jinxx still half-cradled in my arm and his head resting on the side of my chest. He was breathing softly and calmly on my abdomen until he sat up quickly and grabbed his phone.
"What?" I asked, watching him as he ran to the closet and was digging for clothes.
"I just remembered I need to get something from the store." he said, tugging a pair of black skinny jeans, jumping up and down trying to get them over his thighs.
"Get what?" I asked him.
He straightened up, staring at the wall in confusion for a few seconds like he was lost in thought. “I can’t remember. I just feel like I need to get something.
“Are we almost out of something?”
He abandoned the task of pulling up his pants and waddled out of the room. I heard the kitchen cabinets open and shut a few times while he checked them, then the shower curtain move as he checked the shower for soap and all the closets in the house.
“Any luck?” I called.
“Um…how are you on condoms?” he asked unsurely.
Jinxx is such a little kid when it comes to going to the grocery store. When we got inside he begged me to ride in the cart, the compartment where the food and stuff usually goes. He reminded me of a little kid, climbing into the metal basket then sitting with his legs crossed and his back against the kiddie seat. Hey, at least he was small enough to fit in there, unlike me of course. He wrapped his hands around the side wires while I started pushing the cart, ignoring the stares and giggles people were giving us.
“So what did you say we needed?” I asked.
Jinxx pulled out his phone and read off the shopping list. “Carrots, nutella, dandruff color guard shampoo and wasp spray.”
“You live in an apartment, why do you need wasp spray?” I cocked my eyebrow. “And carrots?”
“They could build a nest on the balcony and you can fist me the day matenance does anything about bugs.” He said. “Plus carrots are good for your eyes. You should eat more carrots.”
“Theres nothing wrong with my eyes.” I said, suddenly having to stop the cart to keep from hitting a little kid.
“Still. You’ll thank me when you’re the only 80 year old in the retirement home without glasses.” He giggled. “We should get that flavored sparking water incase CC raids the fridge again.”
“I’m getting a bottle of Jack if that’s alright.”
Jinxx grabbed the things we needed as I steered him down the grocery isles. He grabbed a handful of carrots, three bottles of cherry and lime sparkling water, a bottle of Jack Daniels, three jars of nutella, 2 of JIF peanut butter and a bulk sized shampoo bottle. I left him in the front of the isle to get the wasp spray since I didn’t want the chemicals to get to him if I pushed in down that way. I wasn’t entirely sure if it was safe or not but I’m not taking risks. He twirled a carrot between his fingers. I dropped the blue can next to his knee and made way to the check out.
“Can I get a pack of gum? Please, please, please?” he begged.
I nodded. He grinned like a six year old at me and grabbed a pack of bubblemint gum then tossed it on the checkout belt. I got a 2nd pack for myself and tossed it next to his before loading the groceries onto the belt along with it.
“Find everything okay here today?” The cheery cash register lady piped, smiling kindly at me.
“Yes.” Jinxx answered for me.
She jumped then looked over the counter at Jinxx, who was still sitting in the cart. “Oh, you look a little big to be riding in the cart. How old are you?”
“26.” He replied simply.
“He’s pregnant, give him a break.” I said quietly to her.
“Ah, I see.” She said and checked out our groceries. “Keep the wasp spray away from him, its bad for the baby.”
“I’ll take note.” I nodded and got the groceries as they were bagged. Jinxx held them on his lap while we went back to the car.
“Thanks for pushing me.” He said when I helped him out of the basket.
“Anything.” I pecked him on the lips and slammed the trunk shut. “Now get in.”
